Baron Davis out a year with severe knee injury

Baron Davis has torn the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, a potentially career-threatening injury for the Knicks’ 33-year-old point guard.

The Knicks said Davis was expected to be out a year after an MRI on Monday also revealed a partial tear of the patella tendon.

Davis was hurt Sunday in the Knicks’ 89-87 victory over Miami, crumbling to the court when his knee gave out as he dribbled upcourt on a fast break in the third quarter. Some players looked away as replays of the gruesome injury were shown on the overhead video board.

Davis has battled injuries in recent years and said he wasn’t sure if he would play again after a herniated disk in his back last year kept him out until February.

Just as Mike D’Antoni admitted that he is feeling some heat as his team spins out of control, the embattled Knicks’ coach got some support from Carmelo Anthony.

“Any time teams are losing, that’s the first thing that comes to mind is the coach, but we don’t talk about that,” Anthony said Monday in Greenburgh. “We support Mike 100%. He’s here with us, we’re here with him. We’re going to roll with that.”

Besides publicly supporting the coach, Anthony gave the Knicks hope that he could return soon, possibly Tuesday night when the Knicks (7-13) host the Pistons (4-17)…

The NY Knicks have struggled all year with scoring, turnovers and playing 48 minutes. They need a point guard but will have to settle with Baron Davis until they draft one or trade for one. The combination of Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony was supposed to make the Knicks championship contenders but now they’re just fighting for Draft Lottery position. The Knicks wont be fixed with a D’Antoni nix.
