So in news that seems like its coming straight from the twilight zone, Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner will be named one of Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year. Jenner has not even been a full blown woman for a year, but that is besides the point. Think of all the women that are on the front lines fighting for gender equality, wage equality and fighting against domestic violence who do not receive this honor
While Jenner is a hero to the transgender community which needs all of our support, her struggle does not mirror that of the average transgender. Jenner’s wealth and access to everything she needed to undergo this transition is what the average transgender struggles with on a day to day basis.
The magazine is also honoring actress Reese Witherspoon, ballerina Misty Copeland, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, the U.S. National Women’s Soccer team and five women who lost loved ones in the Charleston, S.C. church massacre.
What do you guys think? Does Jenner belong in this company?
